Remedy calls Alan Wake 2, inspired by true detectives.

In fact, Remedy admits that True Detective, a popular HBO original series, is one of a series of films and television series that are the foundation of its development.

As long as Alan Wake was released in 2010, it was a action adventure game, but even if it weren’t the time-consuming, psychoshock-heavy story. The games setting, Bright Fall, is said to be inspired by the classic television series Twin Peaks. The long-awaited sequel is now complete survival horror by focusing on a story-driven exploration with full combat.

True Detective was the source of inspiration for Alan Wake.

In an interview with VGC, Molly Maloney, a narrative designer for Alan Wake 2 admits some of the inspiration came from True Detective. True Detective is an original series that has aired for three seasons so far. It was the first season of the franchise, with Matthey McConaughey, and re-imagined as one of the most successful television series.

So a small amount of and the nature of the buddy cop scenario from last season’s False Detective has died yet, and the idea of some type of ritualistic serial killer is certainly a dream, says Maloney.

Maloney not only mentioned the 1990s thriller Fargo by the Coen Brothers, but also Se7en by David Fincher in reference to the Alan Wake 2s art style. In terms of gameplay and atmosphere, the game created by Remedy goes beyond its predecessors. Remedy has created a game with Resident Evil and Silent Hill but still doesn’t exist.

Only in digital form will we get available.

On May 24, 2023, Remedy already shared that Alan Wake 2 will be digital-only for all platforms. In other words, all the physical versions will have no effect when the game starts. They reasoned that it needed to be done so that the game wouldn’t reach US$70, the standard price of most AAA games in the past.

The reason that the money is low is good for the player. That’s not what I want to mention: the development team has been working hard on this, and this will make it easier for us to have the best product, Maloney said.

Alan Wake 2 is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 17, 2023.
