Cole Young won’t be in Mortal Kombat 1

The whole original character, who is the protagonist of the live-action MTV movie reboot, won't be in the game.

To quote my dear friend, Shang Tsung, “It’s come and go.”

You can’t resist that you might be a question of whether a better writing could have helped Cole Young land a place in the Mortal Kombat 1 roster.

The movie Mortal Kombat 1 had been released and shown off at Summer Game Fest, so fans had to risk an audience with Kronika to speed up time till September 19 so they can finally play the bloody reboot.

However, since Mortal Kombat 1 will bring in a set of familiar fans, fans who want some Hollywood flair to their battles are in for some disappointments: Cole Young won’t appear in the new game.

The problem with Mortal Kombat 1 is that it introduced a shoehorned character that was forced to attach to one of its most iconic characters.

According to NetherRealm Studio’s lead software designer, Derek Kirtzic, the cinematic world’s original characters will be separate from the digital arena of Mortal Kombat 1, according to his interview with ComicBook.com.

As an audience surrogate of the 2021 film, Cole Young was introduced to the uninitiated masses by pushing wide-eyed into a brutal world of Mortal Kombat. As soon as the fans realized his heritage, in spite of the fact that he was a descendant of Scorpion, one of the franchise’s most iconic characters, his motivations and personality grew out of his shadow. And, for example, his unique ability to manifest an energy-based armor was often seen as overpowered despite his strength.

Despite the critique, Cole Young is set to return to the next film’s sequel. The film is expected to start this month in Australia. While fans may have the same opinion regarding his character in that film, there’s no question about his appearance in the new game.

Even if the iconic game takes place, it is certainly not lost. Mortal Kombat 1 will see a return of fan favorites such as Sub-Zero, Kitana and Liu Kang. The new game is also introducing a Kameo fighter system, enabling seasoned fighters and newcomers to develop different combat options.

Maybe, just maybe the sequel will handle Cole Young better.

It’s clear the worlds of Mortal Kombat will remain separate for the foreseeable future. Cole Young will be a cinematic-exclusive character, even though he recently introduced the Mortal Kombat mythology to the US. In the meantime, NetherRealm Studios continues to lead the company with its plans for Mortal Kombat 1 coming out on September 19th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Classic.

The fans of the new game can expect a return to the thrilling, gore-filled fights they’ve grown to love, even without the presence of the protagonist.

As far as the Boys, all the main characters’ favorite, Karl Urban, who plays Billy the Butcher, have said that he has signed on to play Johnny Cage in the Mortal Kombat sequel with an Adeline Rudolph as Kitana.
