Pokemon Worlds 2023 may see the legendary player return after six years on the sideline

He is the GOAT.

One of the GOAT’s of the Pokemon Video Game Championship, Aaron Cybertron Zheng, has officially announced that he will come to Tokyo to compete at the 2023 World Championship. It would be his first appearance at a major event in six years.

This popular VGC player is known for his YouTube channel, which has become a telecommunications channel whose subscribers have already increased by over 200,000 since he started back in 2010.

A run to Fresno Regionals from June 10 to 11 was disappointing for Zheng, even though he had missed the deadline to submit his team for Fresno Regionals, resulting in a typhoon in the first round of the Swiss stage. It meant that he could expect more than a 6-3 record on day one of the tournament to secure his Worlds invitation.

He went 8-1 on the first day, undefeated – except for his first round penalty.

Zheng finished in 24th place in Fresno, but, regardless of the result, he achieved enough championship points to qualify for Worlds this year. That would be the first time he’s competing at the pinnacle tournament since 2017.

Last year he went to London for the World Championships but didn’t compete. He took on the role of an analyst instead of having taken the role of an analyst at the ‘Earths’ segment. He spoke about his dream of winning Worlds someday. Hell is the first to find another chance this year when he decides to go.

Due to his strong performance in Fresno this weekend and Vancouver Regionals earlier this year, Zheng would be among the top North American players to watch at Worlds with Wolfe Glick, Justin Tang, Emilio Forbes and more.

The Regulation D ruleset for Worlds will give us the wildest metas it has ever been able to in Scarlet and Violet. The main event is planned to begin in mid-August.

Update June 12th, two hours later: Zheng told Dot Esports he hasn’t yet committed to competing at Worlds.
