Liquid, founded in 2009 by Team Liquid, is an encyclopedia that delivers comprehensive coverage of several sports titles. The community volunteers keep the latest information such as tournament results and more detail, team profiles, player bios, standings and tournament goals.

Many esports fans find out that Liquipedias wikis are a leading source of information in the market. Team Liquid claimed in a release that Liquipedia has received more than 62 million unique global visitors and 1 billion page views in the last twelve months.

Formula 1 (F1) would include detailed Grand Prix results, circuit information, driver and constructor biographies and other sporting data. The new wiki is designed for F1 fans but does not include the season’s stand, race information, calendars and other relevant information.

Team Liquid said it decided to become F1 because of the substantial overlap between esports and F1 fans, as well as the lack of an apparent comparison of their offerings to F1 coverage. Formula 1 actively relates to sports, with the F1 Esports Series being introduced and became very involved in sports, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many of the contributors are supporters of esports and Formula 1, so that we can see what Liquipedia needs as an additional service, says Job Hilbers, senior manager of Liquipedia. If you follow F1 you’re familiar with the problem that there isn’t a single web that gives an immediate overview of the current season and all the things happening at each GP. Liquipedia aims to use experiments, tests and established methods to protect F1.

A representative of Team Liquid told the Esports Insider it was originally intended to focus on early adoption amongst esports fans in order to gain momentum and feedback, but later push to mainstream fans more broadly.

Team Liquid said plans to go to Formula 2, Formula 3, and Formula E were in the pipeline, and that other motorsports and traditional sports were also being considered.

The move is part of a strategy to expand the encylopedias remit to traditional sport after over 15 years of covering esports, and its now 21 fully fledged wikis.

Diversification has become a key trend in recent years, with the esports organisation searching for new revenue streams amid the widespread difficulties of coordinating teams directly.
